The Old Market House

At the Heart of Bangor since 1780

Welcome to The Old Market House

A place for heritage, community, creating, learning and working.

A landmark building in the centre of Bangor since the 18th Century, The Old Market House has previously been a market house, a courthouse, an infant school, a town hall and, most recently, a bank.

Empty since 2019, this iconic building is now entering the next phase of its existence. Purchased by Kilcooley Women’s Centre (KWC) in 2020, the vision is to regenerate The Old Market House into a vibrant heritage, community and enterprise space that will include the facilities below

  • Dedicated Heritage Exhibition and Event Space;
  • Café and Visitor Centre;
  • Regular Market Space;
  • Training and Conference Space;
  • Virtual Offices;
  • Office, Hot Desk Rental and Digital Hub.

Kilcooley Women’s Centre has already taken major steps to bring this important building back to life and save it from dereliction; substantial investment to date has stopped any further deterioration and has allowed it to host a number of events for the public, local community organisations and business community.

Now, plans for the future of The Old Market House include a dedicated programme of heritage-based activities supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund; the continued development of the co-working spaces and working towards the full restoration of this Grade B Listed building.
